Twin City Knockers Announce Bout to Benefit Philadelphia Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Twin City Knockers are taking on the Cajun Rollergirls of Houma, LA

On May 19, 2012, The Twin City Knockers Roller Derby League will host their second home bout of the season. This bout will feature Shreveport/Bossier City area women against ladies from the Houma, LA area competing in the fastest growing women's sport in the nation.  Tickets for this full contact, un-choreographed game are on sale now, both locally and online through brownpapertickets.com.  Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and children under 12 receive free admission with an adult.  Half-time entertainment will be provided by the local Shreveport Hoop Group.  The bout will take place at Hot Wheels Skating Rink, 1902 Alfred Lane, Bossier City, Louisiana.  Doors will open at 6pm and the game will begin at 7pm.

Every Twin City Knockers home bout features support for a local charity, and this month the Knockers are supporting Philadelphia Center, Northwest Louisiana’s HIV/AIDS Resource Center.  The Philadelphia Center’s mission is to prevent the spread of HIV by educating the public with regard to how HIV is contracted and how its transmission may be avoided.  Bre “Breasaurus” Garcia, a Blocker for TCK stated, “I’ve lost two very good friends to complications with the AIDS virus.  It makes me feel good to give back to the Philadelphia Center because they are dedicated to providing information on HIV/AIDS education, prevention and awareness.”

Roller derby has experienced a nation-wide explosion in the past few years and currently boasts 1058 leagues in 39 countries.  Attendance during the Twin City Knockers' 2011 inaugural season indicated that the Shreveport/Bossier City area is quickly falling in love with this aggressive, competitive sport, and the league is ready for a highly competitive second season with 5 2012 home games and 6 away games already scheduled and with more in the works. The league is constantly recruiting skaters, volunteers, referees, and of course, fans.  More information about the Twin City Knockers can be found at www.twincityknockers.org .  More information on the Philadelphia Center can be found at http://philadelphiacenter.org/ .
