Uniquely Louisiana – Mardi Gras Northwest Louisiana Style [VIDEO]
Each year the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters accepts submissions for their yearly awards. In the past, K945 has been the recipient of the Station of the Year and Promotion of the Year awards. This year, we tried for something different… the ‘Uniquely Louisana’ award which celebrates the diversity of Louisiana.
Is there anything more ‘Louisiana’ than Mardi Gras? Mardi Gras represents the best Louisiana has to offer: diversity, community, fellowship and having a good time!
In late 2012, as the staffers of K945 were prepping for yet another busy Mardi Gras season, we realized that no single station or media entity in the Shreveport Bossier area truly championed Mardi Gras. Sure, there were some stations that partnered with a specific Mardi Gras krewe, but no one fully took on Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras means more in Louisiana than just a good time. It’s economic impact is enormous and the charitable endeavors on behalf of the different krewes make a huge difference to our community. We decided right then and there, we were going to shine a spot light on these fantastic people and their endeavors on Shreveport/Bossier City. In 2013, we covered 90% of the Mardi Gras bals, a large portion of the coronations and every single parade. Not bad for our first year! We look forward to promoting philanthropic and community building activities through focusing on Mardi Gras each and every year. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!
We hope you enjoy our video! Happy Mardi Gras!
