Ellie Goulding's emotive take on electronic music is guaranteed to make you dance. Her dream-like voice has carried her right into our Woman Crush Wednesday hearts.

Elena Jane "Ellie" Goulding was born in Lyonshall, England on December 30, 1986 to an undertaker and a supermarket clerk. Her interest in music came when she was nine years old as she learned to play the clarinet. She took on the guitar when she was 14 and began writing songs a year later.

Discovered Talent

While attending college, Goulding was introduced to electronic music. In her third year at the University of Kent, she was discovered by Jamie Lillywhite of Turn First Artists at a talent contest. Lillywhite set her up with an audition at Turn First Artists and she wowed the head, Sarah Stennett. She was then encouraged to drop out of school and move to West London to pursue a singing career.

Goulding complied.

Lillywhite introduced Goulding to producer Starsmith and Frankmusik. She signed with Polydor Records in 2009 and put out her debut album, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, that same year. In 2010 she released Lights. The title track, "Lights", was released in the US in March 2011, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Goulding's next album, Halcyon, came out in October 2012 with "Anything Could Happen" as the lead single. The track was Goulding's first top ten debut in the US. The album was then repackaged as Halcyon Days, released in August 2013, to include songs like "Burn", "I Need Your Love" and "How Long Will I Love You?"

Personal Life

Goulding considers herself an avid runner, making a point to run six miles every day, and plans to run a marathon one day. When she tours the US, she plans on inviting fans to run with her in each of the cities she stops in. Goulding also participates in various charity runs.

Rumors are swirling that Goulding is dating 26-year-old Dougie Poynter of the English pop rock band McFly. The two looked smitten with one another while cuddling at a London Fashion Week party earlier this week. The relationship has not been confirmed but sometimes actions speak louder than words.

In the past Goulding has been linked to Greg James, Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran, Skrillex and Jeremy Irvine.
