Two new films performed well above expectations over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

"Contraband", starring Mark Wahlberg, debuted in the top spot, taking in $24 million. And "Beauty and the Beast" came in second with an estimated $18.5 million.

Last week's No. 1, "The Devil Inside", only managed a paltry $7.9 million, a 76.6 percent drop from the previous week, while "Joyful Noise", starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, underperformed in its debut week, finishing in fourth place with an $11.3 million take.
