Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, thinks that commuting from Los Angeles to San Francisco in about 35 minutes by train is possible with what he calls the Hyperloop Transportation System.

Traveling the old way, by car, it would take 5 hours and 34 minutes to travel the distance of 371 miles from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Making the same trip in the Hyperloop would take just 35 minutes because you would travel at 760 miles per hour, a "fifth mode of transportation."

The Hyperloop Transportation System would contain a capsule for carrying passengers with a propulsion system and travel in two directions on a custom route through steel tubes making it possible to carry 840 passengers per hour.

How does the Hyperloop Transportation System work?

First, a low pressure system is created inside the tubes that will make the atmosphere have far less dense air, somewhere around one-sixth the pressure of the atmosphere of Mars. Then by using a compressed air reservoir and aerodynamic lift, the capsules will be supported.

You have probably already figured out the rest.

If your were thinking that an electric air compressor fan mounted in the front of a passenger capsule would transfer high pressure air from the front to the rear of the vehicle, relieving air pressure and creating a low friction suspension system, you are right.

This could be really cool for the whole state of Louisiana considering the amount of potholes we have in all of our roads.

Musk has released the designs as an open source project so that people just like you can join in and help with optimizing the design and bring down costs.
