Labor Day in America is a holiday traditionally on the first Monday in September. It's also viewed as the unofficial end of the summer. This year, it falls on Monday, September 2.

  • In Shreveport and the rest of Caddo Parish, all government and parish offices will be closed, and Sportran will not be offering bus service on Labor Day.
  • In Bossier City, City Hall, as well as all public works and utility offices, will be closed.

What is open in Shreveport-Bossier on Labor Day?

  • All emergency offices — police, fire departments and hospitals — will remain open.
  • The Malls and various shopping centers will be open throughout Shreveport-Bossier, so parents can still do some late back to school shopping for clothing and school supplies.

In Shreveport, you have several choices for shopping. Mall St. Vincent, which has several chain clothing stores such as JCPenney, American Eagle and Dillard’s, will offer great back to school sales.

Across the Red River, Bossier City’s Pierre Bossier Mall has Buckle, Sears, Dillards, JCPenny, Stage and many other clothing stores.

Just remember: Labor Day is the last day where it is deemed proper to wear white or seersucker.
