The drum-off between funnyman Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has been months in the making, and while the copious trash talk between the two has been entertaining to say the least, it’s time to get down to business.

The look-a-likes have agreed to an official date, with the battle to take place on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on Thursday, May 22. According to an announcement by Fallon last night, the drum-off will “settle who’s the better drummer once and for all.”

The hilarity all got started back in February when comedic actor Ferrell took to the internet admitting that he was really Chad Smith, drummer for the Chili Peppers. The claim stemmed from the long-running joke that the two are true doppelgangers and hard to visually tell apart. Smith promptly responded, challenging Ferrell to a drum-off, which quickly evolved into a charitable event.

The trash talk hasn’t eased up leading up to the big day though. Rolling Stone asked Smith his thoughts on Ferrell’s drumming which prompted Smith to respond, “Terrible. I hope he's practicing."

Ferrell admits he’ll need a lot more than practice though, sharing, “I have not been practicing, there's no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer."

So fans tuning in will not only witness what is sure to be an awesome affair of showmanship but it will also be an opportunity to see Smith and Ferrell together side by side, finally putting to rest the rumors that they are indeed the same person.

No matter what the outcome, there are already two very big winners, as Ferrell and Smith have been raising money for the charitable organizations Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock leading up to the drum battle.
