Willis-Knighton Health System hospitals with birthing centers have been honored with special banners in recognition for their achievements in reducing elective, non-medically-indicated deliveries prior to 39 weeks.

Those receiving banners were the Center for Women's Health at WK South, WK Bossier Health Center and WK Pierremont Health Center.

According to a WK news release, The Louisiana Division of the March of Dimes, Louisiana Hospital Association and the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals have established programs to encourage hospitals and expectant mothers to understand the importance of allowing babies to come spontaneously, giving them the time they need to develop and be healthy when they arrive.

Louisiana March of Dimes Program Director Makesha Judson made the banner presentation. She said the organization is very proud of Willis-Knighton for its success in the 39+ Week Initiative.

"Due to the significant reduction in early elective deliveries, more babies are being born full-term and fewer babies experience time in the NICU," Judson said in the news release. "These quality measures are vital to improving the health of babies and we commend Willis-Knighton [hospitals] for their hard work."
