For those of you really gunning for all those sequels Hollywood’s been green-lighting and churning out with a heightened intensity lately, get ready for yet another addition to the ever-growing list! It looks like we're finally getting a sequel to the campy horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice, over 16 years after its initial release.

Winona Ryder confirmed the news during a recent television interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers. When asked what was going on with the sequel she said, “Um, I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton did this interview, like, it was very hush hush, top secret…and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah we’re doing it and Winona’s going to be in it.’”

The confirmation from Tim Burton that she’s referring to comes from an interview the director did with MTV back in December 2014. Burton said that a script for Beetlejuice 2 had already been written by Seth Grahame-Smith, indicating that the movie was going to happen at some point, even if it was only in its earliest stages at the time.

So far, there’s no word as to when the Beetlejuice sequel might be released or even how far into production it is. Burton is certainly busy at the moment, having just finished work on a movie adaption of the popular young adult horror novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. He will also direct an upcoming live-action version of Disney’s Dumbo.
