With colder weather on the way, some local school districts have decided to close schools for Tuesday because of possible hazordous conditions on the roads.

Claiborne, Natchitoches, Red River and Union Parish schools will be closed for the day. Other announcements are expected after this storm system moves through and we know just how cold it will get overnight.

The chance of sleet or snow is not as great for the Shreveport Bossier metro area, but some areas to our east could see some winter precipitation.

Crews from DOTD will be out throughout the night monitoring the road conditions.  They have sand trucks ready to go if any bridges should ice over once the temperatures plummet.

The Weather Channel reports the rain is expected to move out of the area before we dip below freezing. Here's a look at the hour by hour forecast:

Bossier Schools issued this statement Monday night:

Parents and students, based the information we have, Bossier Schools will be in session as normal tomorrow.

The district has been in close communication with the National Weather Service and Bossier Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and Bossier Parish is not currently included in the Winter Weather Advisory that has been issued.

As a precaution, however, Bossier Parish Sheriff's deputies throughout the parish will be monitoring bridges, roads and overpasses early tomorrow morning. Should updates need to be made, Bossier Schools will do so by 5 a.m. via our media partners and on BPSB social media platforms.

Caddo Parish Schools issued this release:

We are continuously monitoring winter weather conditions and remain in contact with the National Weather Service, Homeland Security and our state and local partner agencies. At this time, all schools and sites will be open Tuesday. As we track weather into the evening and early morning hours, our staff will be monitoring road conditions and will make changes as necessary.

DeSoto Parish Schools sent out this statement:

In preparation for the approaching winter weather, our staff has been in contact with numerous agencies including the National Weather Service to ensure we have the most up-to-date and accurate information. Currently, we do not anticipate any closures becoming necessary, but will make any adjustments as needed for the safety of our students, staff and families.

Also closed tomorrow will be the Natchitoches campus of Central Louisiana Technical College.
