The controversial drama "Zero Dark Thirty", which chronicles the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden, ruled all competition in theaters this weekend, taking in $24 million.

The comedy "A Haunted House" debuted in second place with $18.8 million, and "Gangster Squad" came in a disappointing thire with $16.7 million.
