2025 Study: Louisiana Among Worst States for Retirement
Louisiana has lots of culture and with the likes of Mardi Gras lots of exciting activity. While that can make Louisiana a fun place to live, it might not be the place you'd want to live out your retirement. A new study dives into which states have the best and worst qualities for someone to consider before they settle down in retirement.
Study Finds Louisiana a Bad Fit for Retirement
A new study collected data from every state about things like tax laws, cost of living, cost of elderly care, extreme weather occurrences, and local health and healthcare information, all to determine which states are best suited for someone to settle down and retire.
By comparing data from each state, the study ranked them from best to worst for someone in retirement. The best three states were Florida, Minnesota, and Colorado. The worst three states were Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Louisiana is The 2nd Worst State for Retirement
Only beaten by Kentucky for the name of the worst state for retirees, Louisiana is the second worst state for enjoying your retirement. Louisiana ranks among the worst due to the state's lack of health care ability and overall quality of life standards. Affordability for retirees was actually Louisiana's best quality in this study.
Quality of life includes things like the share of adults over 65 living in poverty, starvation rate, or access to volunteer activities. Health care in this study was made up of data like the number of physicians per capita, the quality of public hospitals, or the general health data of adults aged over 65.
