’60 Minutes” Bob Simon Killed In Car Crash
It's been a rough week for TV news.
Veteran "60 Minutes" correspondent Bob Simon was killed Wednesday in a car crash in New York City at the age of 73.
According to reports, Simon was a passenger in a Lincoln Town Car livery cab when it rear-ended a Mercedes-Benz and then hit a median while traveling south on 12th Avenue and 30th Street. Simon was pronounced dead at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital from injuries to the head and torso. NYPD reports that the driver was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, while the driver of the Mercedes was not injured. No arrests have been made and police are investigating the crash.
Simon had been with "60 Minutes" since 1996 and was senior foreign correspondent at the time of his death. He won a total of 27 Emmy Awards and four Peabody Awards.
He is survived by his wife, Francoise, and a daughter, Tanya, who serves as a producer on "60 Minutes".
