Are Some Officers Taking Extra Shifts to Make Ends Meet?
According to Shreveport Times, it looks like the police officers who work hard to protect and serve the public are being overworked by pulling multiple shifts to make a decent 'living wage'.
Think about it! Some Shreveport Police Officers are working 16 hour shift in a single day, reported by the Shreveport Times. These are the folks that are making sure our town is safe. What happens when those police officers become overworked? Well, according to Odyssey Online, there are multiple signs to tell if you are suffering from overworking yourself.
- Poor time management
- Feeling under appreciated
- Relationships fall apart
- Unhealthy eating
- Mental block
- Procrastination
- Attitude
- Unmotivated
Do we really want our officers to feel this way?
The scary part about this is the officers volunteer to work extra hours. The reason behind it is because they get 2.5 times more money than they would during their normal work day when they take up the extra shifts, says the Shreveport Times.
Apparently, Mayor Ollie has a plan. According to the Shreveport Times, the mayor plans on giving the Shreveport officers a 5% pay raise in her next city budget. Which will have to get approved by the city council before it actually happens. Lets keep our fingers crossed that our men and women who protect our city gets the raise they deserve.
