Two people were arrested after a statue of John McDonogh near New Orleans City Hall was dismantled by demonstrators who then dumped it in the Mississippi River near Jackson Square. A tweet from Mayor LaToya Cantrell details exactly what happened. After the statue came down, it was loaded into a truck and driven to the river near the Jax Brewery building. Cantrell's statement went on to say, "The City of New Orleans rejects vandalism and the destruction of City property. It is unlawful."
