In Alaska, Nattaphon Wangyot is an all-state athlete in girls track and field. Why is that such a big deal? Because Nattaphon Wangyot was born a boy.

Earlier this year, the Alaska Schools Activity Association implemented a policy that allows individual schools to decide if transgender boys and girls can compete with the gender of their choice. Because of a lack of a statewide rule, many schools don't require any evidence that a transgender student is "transitioning". They simply need to "declare" that he / she is living as the opposite gender.

Because of that rule - or lack of - Wangyot was able to compete against the girls.
