Shoplifting has always been the bane of the retail industry.  They call it "Shrink loss", and it covers things like damage in shipping, employee theft, and fraud too.  However, shoplifting accounts for the largest chunk of the "Shrink loss" - and it gets worse every year during the holidays.

There are some sad entries on this list, but also some what-the-heck ones.  Booze, seafood, and meat all made the list - which makes me wonder about my brothers gift of whiskey and bacon wrapped lobster last year (still the best present ever).

Here are the top 10 things stolen by Americans during the Holidays according to the Checkpoint Systems’ Retail Holiday Season Global Forecast:

  • 1. Electronics accessories (like cellphone cases)
  • 2. Leather clothing
  • 3. Electronics
  • 4. Accessories
  • 5. Winter clothing
  • 6. Meat and seafood
  • 7. Booze
  • 8. Perfume and cologne
  • 9. Children’s toys
  • 10. Gourmet chocolate
