Overweight Dog From Bossier City Goes Viral After Dropping Half Her Weight
A rescue dog from Bossier City is on a weight loss journey and has won over the hearts of the internet and inspired many more to shed some weight with her.
Patches was in pretty round shape when she was rescued by Heather Snead in 2021, and since then, her life has been on the up and up.
Patches' owner posted a video of the beagle-terrier mix to TikTok in March of 2025, and quickly the video would get tens of thousands of likes and a flood of comments.
How a Bossier City Dog Inspired the Internet
Patches was 70 lbs when she was adopted, 45 lbs heavier than the average for a beagle-terrier. Through daily exercise, a diet, and heartworm treatment by the time the video went viral, Patches was down to 35 lbs.
One part of the video even catches the moment Patches was able to use her back paw to scratch her ear, possibly for the first time since she was a little puppy.
Patches' Backstory: Rescue, Recovery, and Resilience
The story got so big that Newsweek got to interview her owner, and we got to learn so much more about the history of this sweet pup. According to the interview, Patches was 8 years old when she was adopted, and her size could only be described as a "pot belly pig."
Outside of the health concerns that come with obesity, Patches had hypothyroidism and heartworm, which she was immediately started on treatment for.
Comments on the TikTok were filled with love for Patches, some sharing their own rescue story, or just stories of their dog's weight loss.
Patches' dog mom, Heather, even dropped some advice in the comments of the TikTok for those trying to curb their dog's weight: start with Hills Metabolic Mobility, then switch to Purina Weight Management feed once they've started to lose weight.
