Caddo Coroner Identifies Children Murdered In West Shreveport
The office of Caddo Parish Coroner Todd Thoma has announced the names and ages of the children who were shot and killed in a West Shreveport park.
According to the release, 23-month-old Ronnie Marter and 10-month-old Rose Marter, both of Shreveport, were the shooting victims. They were discovered inside a vehicle at Bill Cockrell Park on Pines Road in West Shreveport around 9pm on Tuesday night.
The Coroner's Office says that Ronnie Marter was not killed at the scene. He was transferred to Ochsner LSU Health's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, but tragically succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.
The younger Rose Marter was found dead at the scene.
Police believe the shooter was 25-year-old Anthony P. Smith of Shreveport. Smith's body was also discovered at the scene. Shreveport Police have labeled the crime as a murder-suicide.
Autopsies have been ordered for all of the deceased.
The Caddo Coroner's Office adds that the two murders of the children are the 45th and 46th homicides in Caddo Parish this year. They are the 44th and 45th homicides in Shreveport in 2022 as well.
The Shreveport Police Department is still investigating the shootings.
