A longtime Caddo Parish educator and principal has died of COVID-19.

Jessie Scott died early Friday morning. He was 70.

Scott began teaching in 1976 at Pierre Avenue Elementary School. He was beloved by the entire school family and was eventually promoted to leadership positions in the Parish. He has also worked at JS Clark, Judson, Southern Hills, Northside, and Newton Smith. He is best remembered for his efforts at Southern Hills where he was named Elementary Principal of the Year. He also was named a semifinalist for Louisiana Principal of the Year and was honored at the state level for his continued commitment to academic excellence for the students of Southern Hills.
Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree posted this message about Scott:

“Today we lost one of the true legends of Caddo Schools. Jesse Scott was an incredible school leader! He faithfully served the students of Caddo Parish for more than 43 years. His home, however, will forever be Southern Hills Elementary where he sought to increase opportunities for all students and grow community engagement at the school. He achieved all of that and so much more in his 9 years at Southern Hills, but the lasting memory of Jesse Scott will never be in test scores. It will be in the relationships he built and the warm smile he showed to everyone he met. He was a class act and will be greatly missed. Prayers to the Scott family as well as our students, staff and community members who knew and loved Mr. Scott.”

Scott retired last summer.
