Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy has had his sights set on supporting Ukraine while Russia continues its offense that began in February of 2022. Sen. Cassidy has made a bold criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling into question his diplomacy.

White House Shifts Blame For Invasion of Ukraine

Earlier this month what was thought to be a common narrative began to shift from the President's mouth, during negotiations with Russian officials the President claimed Ukraine was encroaching on territory that belongs to Russia, saying "I heard, 'Oh, we weren't invited.' Well, you been there for three years. You should have ended it three years- you should have never started it."

This was different from how the previous Biden administration acknowledged the conflict and is starkly different from Senator Cassidy and some fellow Republicans. Cassidy told FOX 8 in New Orleans "Russia started the war, and Russian soldiers have committed war crimes against innocent people."

Cassidy Calls Foul Play

During ill-fated negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and American President Donald Trump, along with American Vice President J.D. Vance, both sides butted heads as the Presidents of each country struggled to make an agreement.

Many felt this was furthering Trump's blame-shifting towards Ukraine or just a failure to recognize the threat presented by the Russian Oligarchy. One of those who felt so was Senator Cassidy who took to X, formerly Twitter, to claim that the Russian President, "routinely throws people who disagree with him out of windows or blow sup the planes they are in. He has not just invaded Ukraine. He is killing anyone who disagrees with him."
