Chance the Rapper Surprises Students at Chicago School [VIDEO]
Chance the Rapper is putting his money where his mouth is. After donating $1 million to Chicago Public Schools, Chano surprised students at Mary E. Courtenay Language Arts Center on Friday (March 24).
The Grammy-winning rapper was there for the school’s job and career fair to share his story and inspire students to go after their dreams. “He spoke to all of us about his career and told us to stay in school,” 13-year-old Joanne Tablas told DNAinfo.
“He inspired us to try to make our dreams come true. It was exciting,” added 12-year-old student Ethan Nguyen. "He just said keep your head up and stay positive."
In the video above, Chance was very interested in how the kids are learning math. Afterward, he took a picture with the class.
In addition to his $1 million donation, Chance reportedly gave out $10,000 checks to 10 schools on the South and West Side as well.
This news comes as Fortune magazine placed the Coloring Book rapper on their “50 World’s Greatest Leaders” list for being a “political force as an anti-violence campaigner in his hometown of Chicago." He was also recognized for his monetary donation to CPS.
Meanwhile, a local Chicago bakery is selling Chance the Rapper cookies with proceeds going to Chicago Public Schools. Talk about a delectable offer that you can refuse.
It's always good to see rappers give back to their local communities. Salute to Chance the Rapper!
