Schools across the region celebrated Dr. Seuss Day today with local dignitaries stopping by to read from classic Dr. Seuss works.
Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins visited the Queensborough Leadership Academy to read to youngsters.

Perkins read from Fox in Socks which clearly thrilled the children. Fox in Socks is one of those Dr. Seuss books that is filled with tongue twisters and the Mayor had loads of fun laughing with the children as he read from this work. You can hear the youngsters squealing each time the Mayor reads a silly line from the book. Fox in Socks was first published in 1965. It features two main characters, Fox who speaks almost entirely in densely rhyming tongue-twisters and Knox who has a hard time following up Fox's tongue-twisters until the end.

It's pretty funny to watch the Mayor reading from this most difficult read aloud book.

Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together children and books.

This day is a motivational and awareness day, calling all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading. The first National Read Across America Day was held on March 2, 1998.

Educators also urge all parents to read with your children today.
