Shreveport is enduring freezing temperatures, and there are certain things we often forget about when we're rushing in and out of our vehicles. In the hustle to get to work or head home, leaving certain items in your car can lead to a huge mess or, worse, make you sick.

Here are the things that you need to check your vehicle before you step into work or lock it up for the night.

1. Aerosol cans. We have all left a soda in the freezer and forgot about it right? Just remember an aerosol can can explode if it gets too cold.

2. Canned food. I figured that this wouldn't be affected whatsoever however I was wrong. When freezing temps hit the food inside expands, and causes tiny cracks where bacteria can get in. The USDA has been warning us about this, they claim that we need to throw away any canned food that swells from freezing.

3. Eggs. Am I the only one shocked by this? If an egg freezes the shells crack, and they're not safe to consume.

4. Electronics. I have ruined an iPad because I left it in my truck overnight. I thought just had to warm it back up and I would be okay, boy was I wrong. Make sure you get every single electronic thing out of your car. Phones, computers, headphones, and tablets all take a hit and don't work as they should when they get too cold. Did you know that freezing temperatures can also damage the screen? If you think that isn't that ig of a deal remember that condensation can form inside the device. So when your device warms back up it could cause a short.

5. Medication. With how expensive medication is we can't afford to toss them out. Did you know that some medications become unstable when they get cold? Unfortunately for several people who are diabetic, insulin is one of those medications that becomes unstable if they get too cold. If you're worried about your medications going bad in the cold? When in doubt pick up the phone and call your pharmacist.
