COVID-19 Causes Norton Art Gallery to Halt All Children Events
COVID-19 has caused a lot of us to rethink going to social gatherings. Many of us have been bailed on by friends and as much as many of us may understand, it's still hard to accept that so many of our friends are still unsure about being out and about.
This past week, Governor John Bel Edwards made an alarming statement that stopped many parents in their tracks. Governor John Bel Edwards announced that of all the new COVID-19 cases, 30% are children in Louisiana.
Of 6,000 new cases this past week, we saw 30% of them in children under the age of 18.
Why is this information so troubling? Today all Caddo School went back to in-person learning. By the end of the month, all Louisiana schools will be in full swing.
It should come as no surprise that places all over the state are starting to put a halt to events where children are involved.
R.W. Norton Art Gallery is one of the first in Shreveport to announce they will be canceling all indoor events that involve children. They even canceled the outdoor event Twilight Talkies where families can go watch a movie outdoors.
Here is what R.W. Norton's Art Gallery Said on their Facebook Page:
"Effective 23 August 2021 and until further notice, we are canceling all indoor events that congregate young children. We feel that none of these events is important enough to risk the health of these youngsters through Covid-19 exposure/ transmission. However, we will continue with the outdoor Backyard Books as long as participants remain masked. Additionally, we will be canceling Twilight Talkies movie nights until further notice."
