Grab your friends, your family, heck, grab a stranger! Mudbug Madness 2024 kicks off Friday, May 24th in Shreveport's Festival Plaza downtown. In honor of the 40th annual Mudbug Madness Festival, we've cultivated a list of ten fast facts about crawfish that we're betting you didn't know!

1. Did you know that 90% of the crawfish eaten here in the United States comes from Louisiana?
2. Crawfish can live up to 30 years in the wild.
3. There are more than 500 species of crawfish throughout the world.
4. Europeans consider crawfish a delicacy. Fancy that! We do, too.
5. Did you know that a quarter pound of crawfish only has 82 calories and that they're a great source of protein?
6. Crawfish can be blue, green, white, or yellow before they're cooked and turn red.
7. Crawfish can shed or molt their shell up to 15 times, each time nearly doubling in size.
8. Crawfish can regenerate lost limbs.
9. While crawfish walk forward, they swim backward. Four pairs of legs are meant for walking and the other four for swimming.
10. The crawfish is the official crustacean of the State of Louisiana... and we're the only state to have an official crustacean... which is funny, because shouldn't Maine claim the lobster?
