After making his triumphant return to music at the 2012 BET Awards, D’Angelo will take his act on the road this summer. The mercurial R&B crooner has partnered with Mary J. Blige for the Liberation Tour.

Although only nine dates have been confirmed thus far, MJB told Rolling Stone that 20 dates have been scheduled for their North American trek.

The duo’s tour kicks of Aug. 18 in Virginia Beach, Va., and will hit major cities like Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Houston and Miami after that.

Also on the itinerary, D’Angelo will make a quick detour and perform on Sept. 1 in Philly for Jay-Z‘s inaugural Made in America music festival. Tickets for all of the shows are on sale now at ticketmaster.com.

The Liberation Tour will be D’Angelo first U.S. jaunt in over 10 years. The singer is currently working on his first album since the release of his classic 2000 effort ‘Voodoo.’ Meanwhile, Blige is supporting her latest studio project ‘My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1).’

The Liberation Tour is certainly the hottest must-see concert of the summer season.
