The new developers of the old Diamond Jacks Casino in Bossier City received some good news Thursday morning.  The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has approved the plan to demolish the Diamond Jacks property in Bossier City, allowing for construction to begin on a brand new casino and hotel.

Lisha Landry, Louisiana Assistant Attorney General, presented the license request approval at the Louisiana Gaming Control Board meeting on Thursday morning.  Foundation Gaming was granted approval on their acquisition of the license to operate a land-based casino previously occupied by Diamond Jacks Casino in Bossier City.  Their next step is demolition of the existing, or a large portion of the existing facility, before beginning construction on a new casino and hotel at the Bossier City location.

Diamond Jacks Casino has been closed for almost 3 years with the property sitting vacant and beginning to deteriorate. Foundation Gaming, who already operates successful casino properties in Mississippi, won approval of the license in December of 2022, and announced their plans to scrap the riverboat model, and build a new land-based casino.  The $190 million dollar new facility will include a 100 percent renovation of the hotel, a brand new gaming space, retail shops, spa, and an all new sportsbook betting lounge.

Diamond Jacks History

The Bossier casino first opened as Isle of Capri in 1994. They added the hotel in 1999.  After Isle of Capri, the facility was rebranded in 2006 as Diamond Jacks.  It closed at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020, but never reopened.

With 5 casinos in the Shreveport Bossier City market, some were questioning whether or not we could sustain a 6th.  There was a concern that the license would be relinquished, and re-issued in another market.

Bossier City's mayor, Tommy Chandler told KEELNEWS:

“We are thrilled to know this project will be kicking off in the next few weeks,” stated Mayor Chandler. “Bringing this property back to life will have a significant positive impact on the local economy and tourism market.”
