Today is Ash Wednesday and we begin the Lenton season.  Today many Christians will be getting ashes to begin this Holy Season.

At Christ United Methodist Church on Crabapple in southwest Shreveport, parishoners can get ashes without ever leaving their car.  The church will have a traditional worship service at 5:30pm in the sanctuary.

But you can also get ashes to go in the east parking lot between 11:00am-1:00pm.

This is not new for the local church.  United Methodist churches throughout Louisiana have been offering drive up ashes for a few years.

Most local Catholic churches will have 2 or 3 services today during which ashes will be dispensed.

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the 40 days of Lent leading up the Easter Sunday which is on April 21st this year. Many Christians make some sort of sacrifice during the 40 days of Lent in an effort to make this season more spiritual and bring them closer to God.

Do you think drive thru ashes are appropriate? Is this just another sign of more and more Americans getting lazy?
