Though many fans in Louisiana would have loved to see Drew Brees bring home the NFL Most Valuable Player award, there are fans in the Ark-La-Tex who are comforted knowing that if Brees couldn't have it, at least a local won it.

Newly minted NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas. He played high school football at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. He even played his college football at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.

This season, Mahomes put up 50 touchdown passes in his first year as a starter in the league. He only threw 12 interceptions against those 50 TDs, and ran for 2 more touchdowns. To add to his impressive season resume, the threw for over 5,000 yards.

Not to mention he guided his team to a 12-4 records, first round playoff bye, and home playoff game.

Even though his team couldn't take down the New England Patriots in the playoffs (there are lots of questions about calls in that game), this award is actually a regular season award.
