Mary Poppins is back. Or um, returning.

The official title for Disney's upcoming sequel to the 1964 Julie Andrews classic has now been revealed as: [deep trailer announcer voice] Mary Poppins Returns.

We've known Emily Blunt has been rumored to play the titular English nanny for a while, but now the studio has officially announced her casting. The sequel will star Blunt alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame playing new character Jack, a street lamplighter. The movie will take place about 20 years after the events of the original film to show Jane and Michael Banks all grown up in Depression-era London. Well that sounds like a bummer, but also an opportunity for a cheery nanny to pop in and make it all better. Here's the official description from the press release:

Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Rob Marshall, who directed Blunt in Disney's musical Into the Woods, will helm the upcoming sequel. There's no official word yet on how Miranda's further involvement with the musical, but after his work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens I can only guess that Mary Poppins Returns will feature the Hamilton creators musical sensibilities. The sequel opens December 25, 2018.
