Before I get started, let me say that this story is not about me.  I have certainly been in this situation, as have most of us - but I'm not working out my anger here.  If we are friends, don't feel like this is about you - unless that gets me apology tacos or something.

The question is:  have you ever had to "break-up" with an adult friend?  We all have that friend (or used to have) that never had time to hang, always bailed, and never brought back your ultra-rare copy of "BMX: The Movie" on VHS.  At what point do you stop depending on this person who is probably watching my movie right now?

It's not like a romantic relationship break-up to be sure.  You probably don't have your friends toothbrush or vinyl.  This is more of a conscious effort on your part to fill your friendship needs elsewhere.  You shouldn't feel bad.  As the person who ultimately is responsible for your happiness, you should accept a certain level of friendly reciprocation - especially if you are a good friend.  After 3 or 4 last-minute cancelled plans, it should be clear - this person is not interested in hanging out.

I just want to go on record as saying, you are a great friend.  You deserve great friends, and I hope this never happens to you.
