The Shreveport Fire Department responded to house fire in the 1600 block of Kelsey Street in the Martin Luther King neighborhood. The home was unoccupied when the fire started.

Next door neighbors called in the fire at about 6:20 PM Monday evening. The first unit arrived on scene six minutes later and reported a one-story wood frame home with heavy flames visible from the rear. Firefighters had to overcome several challenges to successfully extinguish the blaze while remaining safe. A downed electrical line, home contents, and front yard obstacles made it challenging to enter the home and locate the fire.

It took the efforts of eight units consisting of twenty firefighters about twenty minutes to bring the blaze under control. The majority of the home sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

One of the home residents was transported to a local hospital after receiving calls from neighbors, alerting them that their house was on fire. The patients condition was non-life-threatening and was not directly associated with the house fire.
