The show must go on … and it did Friday (June 12) for Foo Fighters as Dave Grohl took a spill off stage, broke his leg, had it tended to backstage and triumphantly returned to finish out the band's show in Gothenberg, Sweden. But that might not have been the wisest thing to do and Foo Fighters have called off a pair of upcoming shows to fully assess the extent of Grohl's injuries.

Not long after the show, Foo Fighters posted an X-ray on their Twitter page showing that Grohl did in fact break his leg. According to a statement, Grohl did suffer at least one fracture. Now comes word that the group is taking a pair of shows off to allow Grohl some rest and a chance to determine how to proceed. The shows affected include the band's stops at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands as well as their appearance at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

At present, Grohl expects to be back onstage with Foo Fighters for the band's two-night stand at London's Wembley Stadium June 19 and 20. Beyond that, they have shows in Edinburgh, Werchter and Pilton later this month before returning to the U.S. for a massive July 4 performance at Washington, D.C.'s RFK Stadium. The band is expected back in Europe until November. See their revised itinerary here.

During the show in Sweden, Grohl took a tumble off the stage while performing the song "Monkey Wrench." Speaking to the crowd shortly afterward, he explained that he thought he had broken his leg, but promised that after he got it checked out he would return to finish out the show. True to his word, Grohl got his leg attended to by on site staff and was later wheeled back onstage sitting in a chair. "I may not be able to walk or run, but I can still play guitar and scream," said Grohl to the audience. While Grohl was away, drummer Taylor Hawkins handled vocal duties as the band continued the show.
