Over the last 20 years or so, Louisiana State University has produced some major names in the world of baseball: Todd Walker, Ben McDonald, Alex Bregman, Aaron Nola, Albert Belle...I mean, the list goes on and on.

Heck, right now, arguably the hottest name in baseball today is Paul Skenes - who a lot of people are picking to win both the NL Cy Young and Rookie of the Year award this season.

So, lots of Tigers doing big things across the baseball universe. And, it seems, we're about to add another name to that list.

Former LSU Tiger & Golden Spikes Winner Getting the Call

Like I said, there's no shortage of LSU talent in Major League Baseball. And that list is about to get a little longer. According to multiple reports, 2023 Golden Spikes Winner and 2-time SEC Player of the Year Dylan Crews will be called up by the Washington Nationals and make his debut on Monday August 26th.

Skenes & Crews made history when they were drafted 1 & 2 in the 2023 Draft and got two of the largest signing bonuses in Major League History. And, rightfully so. Skenes has been dominating at the big league level. Crews is a '5 tool player' that can do just about anything on the diamond. As former LSU Tiger Skipper Paul Mainieri said, ability wise, he's right up there with fellow LSU Alumni DJ LeMahieu & Alex Bregman - both of which have had long, successful big league careers thus far.

Expectations for Dylan Crews in MLB

This is ALWAYS the hard part when it comes to prospects in the big leagues. We see what these guys can do at the college level & in the minors, so we the fans expect them to dominate right out the gate at the big league level. Which is pretty unfair. There are more guys that take time to adjust to the majors than there are guys that just come out firing on all cylinders.

For every Paul Skenes or Ken Griffey Jr, there's a 100 guys that take a little time to adjust. Just remember, Mike Trout struggled during his first stint in the big leagues before getting sent back to AAA to make adjustments. But, he did it and went on to become the best player of a generation.

Dylan Crews has all the ability in the world to be a really good ballplayer. Will he adjust immediately? Will he need to find his holes before he goes back to the minors to fix them? Only time will tell.

But, here's one thing I know for certain - he can play baseball at a high level. Whether he ends up being a super star or a role player, who knows. Todd Walker never won a Rookie of the Year, made an All-Star team or won an MVP...but he spent 12+ years in the big leagues playing really good baseball. At the end of the day, what more could you really ask for?

The Best Professional Baseball Players From Louisiana

Louisiana has produced some incredible athletes over the years. In fact, many called the Bayou State a "quarterback factory", but let's not forget just how many amazing MLB baseball players have roots right here. See if your favorite made this list.
