Before the end of the spring, another retail chain will start closing doors and shutting down stores in an effort to stay afloat.  Fred's Stores announced it will shut down 159 locations across the country, and a great number of those locations will be out of business by the end of May.

KSLA is reporting that the company will be shuttering stores it deems to be "underperforming."  This will mean that 2 stores in Texas, 2 in Arkansas, and 4 in Louisiana - including the Shed road location in Bossier City and the Shreveport location on Old Mooringsport Road, will be closing their doors for good.  A press release detailing all of the 159 stores on the chopping block did not outline a timetable for the closure of the stores in the Ark-La-Tex, or what (if any) severance will be offered to employees.  You can see which Fred's stores across the country will be affected by checking out the full list here.
