Dr. Cade Brumley, the Louisiana State Superintendent of Education, has finally released his guidelines for the re-opening of schools for the 2020-21 school year.

Obviously, the aim of the Louisiana Department of Education is to provide students with a more than sufficient educational experience, but at the same time, keep our kids safe and helping to slow the spread of COVID-19.

In a report from KSLA 12 we learn that the guidelines are in partnership with the Resilient Louisiana Commission and the Louisiana Department of Health.

Dr. Brumley states that each district will ultimately decide how its schools will operate, but the guidelines have been put in place to offer best practices that encourage districts to prepare for three possible reopening scenarios: traditional, hybrid or distance/remote learning.

“We developed this guidance by engaging experts on the virus - public health officials - and experts on what this guidance looks like when put into practice - school leaders and educators,” said Brumley. “We understand next year will be a new challenge for all of us as we educate through COVID-19. I have confidence in our collective talents to overcome these challenges. We will depend on each other for innovative ideas, best practices and the promise of a quality education for every child.”

Dr. Brumley goes on to say:

"This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. We know there are vast differences between schools, systems, and communities across the state. It’s our responsibility to develop guidance in conjunction with public health officials, then allow local leadership to make decisions based on the unique needs in their community. We need strong leadership at the local level that creatively and passionately ensures every child gets educated no matter what."
