Hawaii Proposes Legalizing Prostitution?
ABC News reports that lawmakers in Hawaii are considering decriminalizing prostitution after speaker of the House introduced a bill that would also legalize buying sex and acting as a pimp. The bill also would allow police officers to have sex with prostitutes in the course of investigations which was made illegal in the state back in 2014.
"If this bill passes and everything was no crime whatsoever, then abuses against women and children would just shoot through the freaking roof," anti-sex trafficking advocate Kathryn Xian said. "It would be exponentially harder to prove violence in the industry. It would be almost impossible to prove any sort of labor abuse."
Another bill hitting the island state is one to decriminalize marijuana in an attempt many say to reduce the prison population. No word yet when the bill is set to go to a vote but it's sure to bring a lot of criticism.
