Whoever handles the social media for the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office is obviously very good at their job.

While the lion share of the items posted on the Sheriff's Facebook page are very informative and serious, whoever is responsible for keeping the page updated is witty and never afraid to be humorous.

You might even recall that back before Christmas they had multiple reports and sightings from their own version of "Elf on a Shelf" that had been named Deputy Twinkle Toes.

More recently though, the DeSoto Sheriff's Office used Facebook to promote something a little more serious.

They were announcing a new Prescription Drug drop off schedule.  According to the announcement, prescription drugs would be accepted at four separate locations including the Mansfield Main Office, the Logansport Substation, at the Stonewall Substation and at the Pelican Library.

Their post goes on to say that you may bring your medications for disposal and place them into the box anytime Monday - Friday, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Please be sure that the medication is in a container/sealed bag of some sort so it doesn't spill out, and do not drop off narcotics or needles into the boxes.

While convenient, it is not safe to flush old drugs down the toilet. Medication can be toxic to local water systems, and keeping old medicine around the house could cause someone in your home to fall ill if taken by mistake.

Obviously, that's serious stuff and really a great program for all to take advantage of, but it was the next line of their post that literally made me laugh out loud.
