If you look closely at the forecast, the reality will set in.  When the temperature drops to 11 degrees Thursday night, it won't be back to above freezing until sometime Saturday afternoon and then it'll fall back down to 20 that night, refreezing most everything that had thawed.

How Do You Begin To Prepare For The Weather Now?

United Way has listed a number of things that we should be doing now, before this weather hits later this week.  Among the suggestions we see the following highlights:

  • Put together Home Emergency Supplies including flashlights, extra batteries, radio, bottled water, blankets/sleeping bags, manual can opener, first aid kit and fire extinguisher
  • Wrap and insulate all exposed water pipes. Once the freeze hits, leave both hot and cold water coming from a faucet on an outside wall, dripping slightly
  • If you have a generator, make sure to have plenty of fuel and check to make sure it is running properly - DO NOT OPERATE GENERATOR INDOORS
  • For homes with fireplaces, make sure to have plenty of firewood available and stored in a convenient, dry area
  • If you lose power, close off all rooms of the house you aren't using to keep heat confined to the areas you are using.
