Funds are depleted at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana. Here's how you can help.

According to the Shreveport Times, the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana has fallen onto some hard times for the first time in many years. They were fortunate to have some major donations a few years ago, like a woman who left $50,000 of her estate and a veterinarian who donated his former clinic.

These donations have helped keep the shelter on Linwood Avenue in business for several years. However, those days are over.

The goal of the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana is stated as this, "At the HSWNLA, our mission is to eliminate the suffering of animals." And now, they're asking the community to eliminate their own financial suffering.

The easiest way to donate is on their website, www.hsnwla.com. At the bottom of the home page there is a "Donate" button.

Other ways you can help, in my humble opinion, are adopting pets from the shelter to alleviate the burden of overcrowding. Or by having your pets spayed or neutered. This will prevent any unwanted puppies, kittens, etc. in the first place.
