Hundreds Gather in Baton Rouge to Honor Wayde Sims
This week, hundreds gathered to remember LSU basketball player Wayde Sims.
Last Friday was a dark day in the state of Louisiana. Last week, Wayde Sims was fatally shot during an altercation involving several people near the Southern University campus.
This week, hundreds of Sims' friends, family members, and classmates united outside of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to honor their fallen friend.
Wayde’s father, Wayne Sims, spoke at the gathering and took time to address his son’s teammates.
"On thing I can tell to these young men is to play your hearts out. I know Wayde would have loved to be here with y'all through the season. Stay on track. The team is your family," says the elder Sims.
His teammate and lifelong friend Skylar Mays spoke for about 10 minutes
"There's a reason why there is such a big crowd, it's because he touched so many people here and he had an effect and everybody loved him because of who he was, the type of person he was, how he made people feel," says Mays.
