Incredibly Fast Escalator Causes Chaos and Injuries [VIDEO]

This is like something straight out of my nightmares.

I don't know why, but I have always had a weird, strange feeling about escalators. Obviously, that's a weird fear, I guess. Let's face it, these things are virtually harmless, right? WRONG. Trust me, you'll never see escalators the same way again.

A crowded "down escalator" inside a metro station in Rome started speeding up and causing absolute mayhem.  People were piling on top of one another at the bottom, and at least 20 were injured, some seriously.  Fortunately, no one died.

When you see the footage, you'll know exactly why it's shocking that no one was fatally injured.

As the chaos really ramps up, you see people from the "up escalator" reaching over, trying to help those in harm's way.
