Is Louisiana experiencing the most depressing day of the year? According to a psychologist, the year's most depressing day is the third Monday of January. Welcome to Blue Monday, are you feeling sad or depressed today?

Dr. Cliff Arnall has apologized for coining the term "Blue Monday". He claims that his intentions never were to depress us but to motivate us to make bold life decisions and to inspire us to look at the bright side instead of focusing on how miserable we may feel.

Dr. Arnall came up with a formula in 2005 and says that the third Monday in January is the most depressing day although this formula isn't backed by science. The British psychologist's weird formula is supposed to calculate how sad or depressing any given day might be. Unfortunately for you and me, today is the day you should be able to call in.

Why is the Third Monday in January the absolute worst? Did you already give up on your New Year's resolutions? Is your motivation at an all-time low? maybe so much time has passed since the holidays and you realize that you're just sad, alone oh, and can't forget the crippling debt you went into to pay for the holidays. We can also blame the horrid weather and short days. Today feels extra miserable outside.

What is the silver lining here? It isn't scientific, and you can put yourself in a good mood. Science does show that planning a vacation makes you a happier person. It may seem like you have a long year ahead of solid work facing you, but a trip or vacation will give you something to look forward to.
