Is Your Water Bill Going Up?
If you live in Shreveport, you could be seeing a bigger water bill soon - according to a recent report from KTBS. The hike has nothing to do with water usage, but everything to do with a $12 fee used to fund sanitation collections.
According to former Shreveport city councilman, Tom Arceneaux - the fee could be used for non-water purposes:
"The additional funds are basically going for five percent raises for non-police and fire," Arceneaux said, "and then, a general contribution to the general fund balance."
Another key point to consider is that trash pickup in the proposed areas has gone from twice a week, to just once a week. Just to be clear, that is half of the trash pickups for more money. $144 more per year to be exact.
Don't think you are alone, currently Baton Rouge charges $20 monthly for trash pickup, while New Orleans charges $36 a month to pick up the trash.
The Shreveport City Council will be voting for or against this proposed fee next Tuesday.
