As part of the Red River Campaign, Union forces have marched into northwest Louisiana, and in DeSoto and Sabine parishes, they are met by Confederate forces led by Major General Richard Taylor.

In a continuation of the previous day's Battle of Mansfield, in what's been described the largest battle fought west of the Mississippi River, Confederate forces attacked the Federals in the Battle of Pleasant Hill, and sent them in retreat all the way to Alexandria.

Now, this Friday through Sunday, April 10 - 12, in honor of the 162nd Anniversary of this battle, the 46th Annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Pleasant Hill will take place on the actual battlefield where Union and Confederate forces met.

This Friday, April 10, is dedicated to local schools from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Then, Saturday, April 11, along with historical demonstrations, food trucks and vendors, visitors will be treated to a full-scale battle re-enactment at 2:00 pm and a "Period Ball" slated to begin at 7:00 pm

Sunday, April 12, church services will be held at 10:00 am and there will be another full-scale re-enactment at 2:00 pm.

Entry fee is only $5 per person (kids 5 and under get in free) and activities will be held at the battle grounds three miles north of Pleasant Hill on LA 175 in Pelican, Louisiana.
