I-220 Lane Closure: What Bossier Drivers Need to Know
Shreveport/Bossier drivers, while your frustration can certainly be appreciated, it doesn't negate the fact that the work still has to be done.

There are those who will rightfully challenge the intellect of closing a lane of I-220 at the same time all commercial traffic is being forced onto that very roadway during the reconstruction project on I-20, but the bigger issue would be the failure of I-220 due to lack of maintenance. We would certainly have a major problem then.
Keeping that in mind, drivers were just advised by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development that this coming Monday, May 12, the inside (left) lane of I-220 westbound near the LA 3 (Benton Rd.) interchange will be closed.
Additionally, the on-ramp from Benton Road to I-220 westbound will be closed.
The toughest part of this closure is that, unlike the nighttime closures of I-220 at the I-49 corridor which are scheduled to begin this Sunday, May 11, these closures will occur in the daytime hours.
DOTD has announced that the lane and the Benton Road I-220 westbound entrance ramp will be closed from approximately 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and are necessary to allow DOTD crews to perform roadway and shoulder repairs.
Drivers are urged to slow down, eliminate distractions, and travel with caution through the work zone. The suggested alternate route to I-220 West is from either Airline Drive or Swan Lake Road.
This work will be performed "weather permitting" so inclement weather could delay, extend or alter the scheduled work day/hours.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
