From the eastern part of Bossier City to near Haughton, traffic at peak travel times has been one of the area's biggest conversations.

That traffic congestion, which can be brutal at times, is largely due to the huge US 80 overlay project going on in the area.

Of course, the conversation prior to the launch of this project was the public outcry for the need of an asphalt overlay project.  You know the cliche', "Damned if you do, and damned if you don't."

Of course, with the current I-20 reconstruction project also causing some lengthy delays, the timing for this work couldn't have been worse, but we need to all understand that when the improvement funds are made available, we can't afford to pass on them.

The project, which began on April 14, has made incredible progress as the contractor has already laid the first layer of asphalt on the section of US 80 from the Flat River to Bellevue Road.

In the latest announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn that currently, asphalt milling operations are taking place on sections of the roadway east of Bellevue Road in preparation for new asphalt paving to be applied in the coming days. The median openings – or crossovers – will also be re-paved.

The project stretches five miles, from the Flat River just east of Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City to Merrywoods Boulevard in Haughton, providing crucial infrastructure improvements to the heavily traveled corridor.

In that announcement from LADOTD on their Facebook page, we learn that the entire project is expected to wrap up in early 2026

Motorists should expect possible delays during the lane closures and really need to slow down in these zones, as you can tell by the Facebook comments, the gravel they sling onto other drivers is causing a number of cases of broken glass.

Louisiana's 21 Most Wanted Criminals

While some of these have been missing for over 50 years and are likely deceased, many have escaped prison in the past 10 years and could likely still be in Louisiana so keep your eyes peeled and should you spot one of these criminals, immediately contact police.
