Flood Watch Issued With More Heavy Rain Coming to Shreveport

After the lengthy drought that the northwest Louisiana area experienced for much of the summer and fall of 2023, it would appear that Mother Nature is making an attempt to get our water levels caught up in the course of a week.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, confidence is increasing for the chance of additional moderate to heavy rainfall this week across the entire area.

In fact, the Shreveport area and most of the Arklatex are at a Marginal Risk of severe weather today and tonight. The National Weather Service states that the area most at risk is generally along and south of the I-20 corridor. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat with a non-zero chance of a few isolated tornadoes.

NWS adds that a very active storm track will continue to produce areas of moderate to heavy rainfall across much of the area and because of that likelihood, have issued a Flood Watch which be in effect from 6:00 am this morning (Tuesday, Jan. 23) through Wednesday afternoon.

This Flood Watch is for portions of Louisiana, including the following parishes: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Caldwell, Claiborne, De Soto, Grant, Jackson, La Salle, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Red River, Sabine, Union, Webster and Winn.

These counties in Texas are also included: Angelina, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Upshur and Wood.

NWS fears that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
