I-20 Westbound Lane And Bert Kouns Exit Close Today In Shreveport
Once again, westbound traffic on I-20 in west Shreveport is going to slow due to construction at the Bert Kouns exit ramp.
In an announcement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, all drivers in the area have been advised that effective this morning, Thursday, August 27, the outside (right) lane of I-20 westbound and the exit ramp to LA 526 (Bert Kouns Ind. Loop) in Shreveport will be closed.
When Will I-20 Westbound Lane at Bert Kouns Be Closed In Shreveport?
This closure is expected to remain from approximately 7:00 am today (Thursday, August 27th) until 6:00 pm, tomorrow, Friday, August 28th, and is necessary to allow for permanent roadway striping operations related to the ongoing project to improve safety at the interchange.
DOTD highlights that this project is for the extension of the deceleration lane at the exit ramp, to allow for additional vehicle storage, which enhances safety by allowing extra space for exiting vehicles to move from the higher speed interstate travel lanes.

Motorists should be advised of this temporary ramp closure, and plan accordingly, noting that there may be additional congestion in this area, particularly during peak travel times.
DOTD Suggests Using US 80 to Bert Kouns As Alternate Route During Exit Closure
This is a total ramp closure and will require all vehicles to utilize alternate routes such as US 80 (Greenwood Rd) which can subsequently be taken back to LA 526 (Bert Kouns).
Of course, this work will be done "Weather Permitting" and inclement weather could delay, extend, or alter in other ways, the scheduled work day/hours.
